Google Announces Android Operating System

Google introduced what it is calling the Open Handset Alliance which has 34 major players from the hardware and software industry among them being Google, T-Mobile, HTC, Qualcomm, Motorola, Nokia, Apple and Microsoft and made a big step in the mobiles world by introducing an open source phone platform called Android. This product will be Linux based and includes an operating system and an important list of applications.

So, instead a Gphone, there will be many Gphones by various manufacturers which will be based on the new Android OS. The first devices running on the Android system are expected to hit the market in the second half of 2008.
